[Beck nods and starts heading up the stairs to the food and bar area. Off to the side there was also a karaoke stage but there was a sign saying that wasn't open until 10pm. The menu had the usual hearty takeaway fare - burgers, fries, pizza.]

Order what you want. My treat.

[Well, kind of his Dom's treat. Gokudera had been supportive and willing to pay but he also had been thinking more of a fancy restaurant and this certainly wasn't that. So this would be cheap in comparison, even if they bought ten burgers. He also had some cash saved up from his various jobs but much of that was going into his film projects. He was happy to let Gokudera cover most expenses.]

[Beck tells the waitstaff and they get to the order while he finds a good table, off to the side. The place isn't overly busy but there are a few people around. It's likely going to be bustling later in the night.]

[It's a cozy spot, and Chris spends a moment looking Beck over before speaking up.]

How's he handling your turn away from supervillaindom?

That I'm not sure of the answer to. The one from my world isn't here and that one back home doesn't yet know the whole truth about it.

There is one here who keeps harping on at me that I'm a fraud and a liar and no matter what I say or do he doesn't believe that I'm trying to change...

[He sighs.]

But that's the danger of alternate worlds. You don't know how bad other version of you are and somehow I always get the fallout of the angry superheroes or villains, blaming me directly.

Well if he says that shit anywhere near me, I'm punching him in the face. Just sayin'.

[Because you'd have to blind not to see that Beck is genuinely trying to do better.

Though to be completely fair, Chris has been mislead before.]

And he can probably take it. If he's anything like my Spider-Man. Or any others I've seen.

But it's... nice that you'd defend me.

[He reaches out and gives Chris' hand a squeeze.]

[He smiles a bit, squeezing Beck's hand back.]

Back home there were a few people willing to give me the benefit of the doubt but most just wanted to either send me back to prison or back to Hell or just flat out kill me.

Probably doesn't help that for one reason or another I slip back into old, comfortable habits.

And not so comfortable ones. Bad habits to make a quick buck or... just lose my cool and do something without considering all of the consequences.
